Authors

Authors create and edit content and media. Everything an Author saves stays in Draft until an Approver publishes it — see Workflow.

Finding content

List all content

Manage → Content (/admin/content) lists everything on the site. Filter by title, type, published status or language, then use Edit in the row. The Moderation state column shows where each item is in the workflow.

List all media

Manage → Content → Media (/admin/content/media) lists every image, document and video. See Media.

Content reports

Three reports under Manage → Content help keep the site tidy:

  • Missing description (/admin/content/missing-description) — content with no Description. Every page should have one; it is what appears in search results and cards.

  • Images missing alt text (/admin/content/image-bad-alt) — images whose alternative text is missing or looks like a file name.

  • Moderated content (/admin/content/moderated) — everything that is not published, grouped by workflow state. This is where Approvers find content waiting for review.

Add content

Manage → Content → Add content (/node/add) lists the content types you can create, each with a description of what it is for. Hover the Add content menu item to jump straight to a type.

Choosing a content type

Which type to pick is covered in Content types.

Editing

Creating and editing pages — the form, its tabs and sidebar, menus, addresses and revisions — is the same for every role that edits and is described in Editing a page. Media, workflow and the editor have chapters of their own under Content editing.

What Authors cannot do

Authors cannot publish, archive or delete content — see Workflow — and can delete only the media they uploaded themselves.
